How to Adjust the Trigger on a 504 Remington

The Remington 504 functions on the same bolt-and-trigger principles established by the immensely popular Remington model 700. The model 504 is a bolt-action rifle, firing .17-caliber bullets housed in a detachable magazine box. The 504 may be field-stripped without tools. Adjusting the trigger yourself means voiding the warranty of the firearm. While Remington recommends taking the gun to a gunsmith to be adjusted, many people adjust the trigger on their own. Always have a gunsmith check the adjustments.

Instructions

    • 1

Unload the weapon by removing the magazine and checking to make sure the breach--the bolt well that holds the cartridge--is clear.

    • 2

Unscrew the two screws on the trigger plate and remove the plate.

    • 3

Turn the firearm on its back so the trigger guard points toward the sky, and peer into the open trigger assembly. You may need a flashlight or a strong light source to do so.

    • 4

Identify the two screws immediately above and in front of the trigger. These two screws are between the muzzle and the trigger, not the butt and the trigger.

    • 5

Loosen these screws to lighten the trigger pull. Tighten them to ad weight to the trigger pull.
