Benelli Gun Cleaning
-
Cleaning the Barrel
-
Use a cleaning rod with a small rag on the end soaked in powder solvent to clean the barrel. You will need a larger rod and more cloth to clean a Benelli shotgun than you use with rifles since the bore is significantly larger. Alternate solvent-soaked rags with dry patches and continue cleaning until a clean patch can be run down the barrel without gathering any powder residue.
Cleaning the Exterior
-
If you use the gun in rain, dry it carefully. Wipe any mud off of the exterior of the gun. Use soap and water if necessary to clean the exterior of barrel, action and stock, but be sure to remove all traces of soap and soap residue before drying the gun completely. Use an oily rag to wipe any fingerprints off the metal exterior surfaces of the gun, leaving a protective layer of oil on the rust-sensitive metal.
Sensitivity to Conditions
-
Benelli shotguns can be particularly sensitive to conditions and are liable to jam or refuse ammunition if they are not maintained properly. If your Benelli gets wet or muddy, you must make especially sure to clean it carefully. Pull the bolt back to wipe the interior of the magazine and the entrance of the firing chamber with an oily rag.
Different Ammunition
-
Different types of ammunition can have different effects on a Benelli. Steel shot, in particular, can leave a lot of powder residue, which should be cleaned after about 20 rounds. Otherwise, clean your Benelli completely after every 100 rounds or so; wipe down the exterior after every use.
