How to Do Push-Pull Pistol Shooting Stance

When you do pistol shooting, there are several different methods of shooting stance. Arms, hands, feet and upper body positions all play a part in the stance you use. The push-pull method helps some beginners to relax and not feel as much fatigue when practicing on a shooting range.

Notice that when you use a holster at the shooting range, the push-pull stance begins when you draw your pistol from the holster. Raise your gun from your holster and at the same time, push the pistol forward. As you push forward, your other hand should meet your pistol hand. As your hands meet, this action brings stability to your stance.

Watch your pistol arm as your other arm meets it in the push-pull stance. At this point, you should be on target.

Fire your pistol and pull back your arms at the same time. Pay attention to your movements. This should all be done in one motion.

Stand with your upper body leaning a little forward with one foot slightly behind the other. This gives you more stability and control as you practice the push-pull stance. The push-pull method of this type of stance helps you to absorb the recoil of your pistol when it is fired.

Practice the push-pull stance of shooting guns by not locking your elbows. Your elbows must be slightly bent in order to do this stance properly. By locking your elbows, you put more stress on your arms and you'll get fatigued much more quickly. Fatigued arms can prevent you from shooting accurately.
