How to Become a Marksman With a Pistol

Rifle marksmanship is a combination of innate talent and long hours of practice. Learning to shoot proficiently with a pistol is even more demanding because the smallest error can be greatly magnified with your results down range. Training properly and diligently is the only way you can get where you need to be.

Instructions

    • 1

Practice holding your pistol in an aiming position for a one minute period of time with a 30 second rest period. Repeat this 5 to 10 times. This is called "snapping in" and will train your muscles to relax in the shooting position.

    • 2

Develop proficiency with a .22 pistol. This is the best pistol for dependable marksmanship because of its reliable accuracy and low cost in ammunition.

    • 3

Go to the shooting range consistently. A marksman is someone who constantly stays up on their practice; even missing a few trips to the shooting range will adversely affect your performance.

    • 4

Shoot at different distances and in different conditions. A true marksman can perform regardless of what obstacles Mother Nature might place in his way.

    • 5

Take along some quality ear phones and safety goggles in order to protect your ears and eyes from the conditions on the shooting range. You should not have to worry about safety concerns while developing yourself into a marksman.

    • 6

Remember to keep your cool when you have a bad day at the range. Shooters that get flustered and disappointed often get discouraged and lose valuable practice time. Dedicate yourself to the long haul.
