Nike Sports Band Recall

After numerous reports of faulty display issues in 2008, Nike announced a voluntary quality return of its Nike+ SportBand. The problem with the display was a result of humidity, whether in the air or produced by sweat, interfering with the LCD. Nike pulled the item from the market and began work on an improved model.
  1. What is a Nike+ SportBand

    • Nike sold more than 500,000 models of the SportBand, which records distance, pace, time and amount of calories burned on a run. The product consists of a sensor that fits in a running shoe and a wrist band. The wristband receives a signal from the sensor and produces data related to your run. Data can be analyzed over a weekly running period and uploaded to a computer to track progress.

    New Model

    • A new model of the Nike+ SportBand became available on the market in July 2009. This model includes updates such as a better, more visible display screen, new colors and improved water-resistant construction. Those experiencing difficulties with the first model can upgrade to the newer model for free.

    How to Return

    • Owners of a defective SportBand can exchange the item for a newer model either by mail or at store locations. Problems with the item can be reported to local retailers. For additional information, Nike consumer service will receive inquiries at 800-379-6453.
