How to Mold a Mouthguard

Mouthguards are a safety device worn by athletes during contact sports. Those who have jaw disorders also wear them to align the jaw properly. The most common type of mouthguards are those you can mold yourself at home. It only takes a few minutes and will provide a more customized fit for your mouthguard than the general mouthguards sold in sporting-goods stores.

  • Water
  • Small saucepan
  • Small bowl
  • Spoon or ladle

Instructions

      Heat the water in the saucepan and bring it to a boil. Fill the small bowl with cold water and set aside.

      Drop the mouthguard into the boiling water and let it boil for about 30 seconds. Remove it with a spoon or ladle.

      Place the mouthguard into the bowl of cold water for about 15 seconds.

      Place the mouthguard into your mouth and bite down all the way. The mouthguard should fit tightly onto your teeth, gums and the roof of your mouth.

      Remove the mouthguard from your mouth and put it back into the cold water for 30 seconds. This will set your customized mold.
