1
Check the labels on several different brands of earplugs. Select a product that is labeled specifically for use while swimming. Note whether the brand you select is labeled for one-time use only, or if the earplugs are reusable.
-
2
Grasp one earplug between your thumb and forefinger. Roll the earplug back and forth, applying pressure.
-
3
Insert the earplug into an ear. Do not try to force it in far enough to cause discomfort. Allow the earplug to expand within your ear. Repeat this with the second earplug in your other ear.
-
4
Discard the earplugs after swimming unless they are reusable. Discard reusable earplugs at least every two weeks, if not sooner, as recommended by the Go Ask Alice website.
-
5
Clean reusable earplugs immediately after use. Apply rubbing alcohol to a cotton ball. Wipe the earplugs with the cotton ball. Allow them to air dry.
-
6
Store the earplugs in a clean, sealed plastic bag to help prevent contamination or infection.
