How to Swim in a Half Wig

Swimming is great exercise and fun as well. However, swimming can seem complicated when wearing a half wig. There are a few options to preserve the hairstyle depending on whether the hair will be completely submerged. If you plan to fully submerge the hair, you should use a specific swimming cap technique. However, if you plan to wade in the water only, a "pinup" technique should be used. These methods will help to ensure that the half wig isn't damaged and doesn't come off while swimming.

Instructions

  1. Swimming Cap

    • 1

Pin the hair up using hair pins or hair clips.

    • 2

Apply the disposable shower cap. The shower cap will protect the wig from friction damage while applying the swimming cap.

    • 3

Apply the swimming cap. Start at the front of the head and slowly pull back until the cap is on.

    • 4

Tuck any remaining hair into the swimming cap, and ensure that the shower cap isn't showing. This configuration should prevent the hair from getting wet.

    • 5

Check that the cap is tight and secure on the head. The cap should rest behind the ears for proper positioning to prevent water from entering the cap.

    • 6

When finished swimming, carefully remove the swimming cap and shower cap. Also remove any clips and pins that were applied to the hair.

    • 7

Check to see if hair is wet. If the hair is completely dry, simply fluff the hair back into style using the styling equipment as necessary to achieve the desired look. If the hair is slightly damp, smooth and dry the edges and style as desired.

    Pinup technique

    • 8

Clip the hair up above the neck using the hair clip. Making a ponytail or a bun tends to give the best results.

    • 9

Use the hair pins and small clips to secure the edges and any other parts of the hair that aren't secured by the clip.

    • 10

Wade in the pool as normal, minimizing the amount of water that gets into the hair. Be aware that completely submerging the hair will result in additional work to restore the previous style.

    • 11

Remove the hair clips and pins, and use styling equipment as necessary to achieve the desired look.
