Instructions

    • 1

Set your tennis shoes in the sun all day to let them dry thoroughly. Fungus and bacteria thrive in dampness, so getting them completely dry is the first and most important step in removing odor.

    • 2

Fill a pair of old knee-high stockings loosely with kitty litter. The kind that is designed for multiple cats is best. Knot the knee-highs closed and slide them into your tennis shoes. Let them sit overnight and the kitty litter should absorb any dampness and odor.

Pour baking soda into a large, clean shaker---the kind used for parmesan cheese is good. Thoroughly sprinkle the baking soda into your tennis shoes, making sure you get the underside of the toes and tongue. Baby powder also can be used this way to absorb moisture and deodorize. Leave the baking powder or baby powder in the shoes overnight. Shake out the excess before putting the tennis shoes on.

Fill a clean spray bottle with isopropyl alcohol. Spray the insides of your tennis shoes with alcohol before you wear them. Let it dry completely---alcohol evaporates quickly, so it only takes a minute or two. Spray your shoes again when you are finished with them and set them in the sun.
