New England Camps for Female Shot Put & Discus Throwing Training

The shot put and the discus are two of the throwing events in track and field. Attending a camp to help learn and practice proper technique can help athletes prepare for competition. There are a variety of camps in New England for females who would like training in the shot put and discus.
  1. University of New Hampshire

    • The University of New Hampshire in Durham, New Hampshire offers a five-day track and field camp for male and female youth in grades seven through 12. This camp specifically works on the sprinting, jumping and throwing events, including the shot put and discus. Instruction takes place in the late afternoon and early evening at the track and field facilities on the campus of UNH. The university's track and field coaches are the lead instructors and a certified athletic trainer is present for all five days of camp.

    Stonehill Sports Camps

    • Girls in eighth through 12th grade who want to learn more about the shot put and discus can attend the co-ed Stonehill Track and Field Camp, sponsored by Stonehill College in Easton, Massachusetts. Athletes have the option of participating in the day camp or the overnight camp. Those choosing the overnight camp receive lodging on the campus of Stonehill College and three daily meals, while day campers receive one meal. Instruction is provided by the Stonehill track and field coaches and includes group and one-on-one training sessions. All athletes also receive a weight training program specifically designed for their event.

    Nike Sports Camps

    • Nike Sports Camps provides a track and field day camp for middle school youth and an overnight camp for high school students on the campus of Loomis Chaffee School in Windsor, Connecticut. Both camps would be appropriate for girls who would like an introduction to the fundamentals of throwing the shot put and discus. Overnight campers receive meals and supervised housing on the Loomis Chaffee campus. Practice takes place at the school's track and field facilities, which features three shot put circles and two discus circles. The director of the camp is the head coach for the Loomis Chaffee men's track and field team. All campers receive a pair of Nike running shoes.
