How Can I Hit a Short-Angled Volley?

Hitting a short-angled shot in volleyball can be an effective way to score a point on the opponents by catching them off-guard and placing the ball where no player is on the other side. Short-angled hits are a great tool to add to a player's repertoire. These short-angled shots are particularly effective to hit periodically throughout the game after hitting other types of shots more frequently.

Instructions

    • 1

Start by taking a full three step approach. The short-angled shot should be disguised as a regular attack to be most effective.

    • 2

Swing up both arms high as you lift off the ground. This will help increase how high you jump.

    • 3

Swing down the left arm first, then the right. Use 50 percent or less power upon contact than a normal shot.

    • 4

Aim at the spot on the other side of the court you want to hit.

    • 5
The wrist follow-through shown here is snapped and exaggerated.

Exaggerate the follow-through to the extreme left or right. Do not do a full follow-through like with a normal full hit. Do more of a rolling motion with your wrist and hand instead of a normal flat smack for a regular hit.

Land on both feet simultaneously with knees bent.
