1
Measure the length of one of the volleyball net poles and draw a line two feet from the bottom of the pole. Mark that spot on the pole. This will be the portion of the pole that is buried in the ground.
-
2
Measure the rest of the pole from the two-foot mark to the other end of the pole. This will determine the height of the volleyball net. For men's volleyball it should be 7 feet 11-5/8 inches tall, while for women the height is 7 feet 4-1/8 inches tall.
-
3
Measure the area where the volleyball court will go. Official volleyball courts measure 29 feet 6 inches wide and 59 feet long. The size can vary based on the amount of space in which you have to work.
-
4
Mark the spots on each side of the middle of the volleyball court where the net poles will be placed.
-
5
Dig a hole on each side of the court where the poles will go. The holes will be two-feet deep. When the poles are placed into the holes, the line you drew on the poles should be level with the surface of the ground.
-
6
Make the holes a few inches wider at the bottom then at the top of the hole. This provides a stronger and longer lasting anchor.
-
7
Pour the concrete mix and water into the wheel barrel, and mix it together following the directions on the concrete-mix package. You want the concrete to be the consistency of a thick milk shake.
-
8
Place a pole into the center of a hole.
-
9
Pour the concrete into the hole around the pole. Fill to within two to four inches of ground level.
-
10
Keep the pole straight up and down while the concrete is drying. You may need to prop it up with another pole or tie it in place with some rope.
Setting time for the concrete will vary based on the brand and type of concrete mix you use. Refer to the concrete-mix package for the estimated drying and setting time.
-
11
Repeat steps 8 to 10 to install the other pole.
-
12
Fill in the remaining space in the holes with dirt or sand once the concrete is dry. This helps prevent injury on the concrete when playing.
-
13
Hang the net on the poles once the concrete has dried.
