Scuba Diving Schools in Massachusetts

Scuba diving allows people to get face-to-face with a variety of sea life as well as view coral reefs and other underwater attractions. Before taking off on a diving trip, scuba enthusiasts should get the proper training and learn how to dive safely. Massachusetts is home to a number of schools that offer scuba training to divers of varying skill level.
  1. MASS Diving

    • MASS Diving has scuba diving classes for new and experienced divers. Instruction for new divers consists of home study, pool sessions and open water dives. Students begin their training by watching a DVD and reviewing text materials at home, and then transitioning into class reviews and exams. Next, students will practice their diving skills in a swimming pool, using scuba equipment. Finally, divers will experience two days of diving in open water; each day divers will go down twice for a minimum of 20 minutes. Experienced divers can attend a refresher course that includes the topics of equipment set-up, proper fin techniques and buoyancy skills.

    East Coast Divers

    • East Coast Divers offers scuba instruction for beginning and experienced divers. Both group and private classes are available, as well as a free one-hour training session for first time divers unsure if they are ready to commit to the the sport. Students are given take-home materials to review and then advance to swimming pool lessons with full equipment. After divers become competent in the pool, they must complete five open water lessons over the course of two days. A scuba refresher course for divers who have not been diving for at least year is offered at the school's pool facilities.

    United Divers

    • United Divers offers a variety of training courses for scuba divers in both a swimming pool setting and open water. The school's discover diving course takes place in either a pool or open water and offers a basic orientation to scuba diving. The open water diving course consists of classroom training, pool diving and four open water diving sessions; the open water dives can take place under the supervision of a United Divers instructor, or on the student's own time. The school also has a three-hour skills update class.
