Instructions

Know that preparation is a very important part of safety in windsurfing. Make sure that the daggerboard is down all the time. Pull the nob toward the rear of the board to lower, and push it toward the front when setting out. Know how to use the foot straps and deck plate to hold the rig (sail, mast and boom) in place. You should hold onto the boom.

    • 2

Put your kit out to sea! Determine wind direction by yourself or with others, and set the sail downwind of the board.

    • 3

Swim to the upwind side of your board and push yourself up. Stay on your knees at first, then raise yourself to your feet at a very slow pace. Rock back and forth mildly to establish a feeling of stability on the board.

    • 4

Pull the sail up from the water, using hand over hand. Don't stress your legs or back to do this. It should be a strong, fluid motion.

    • 5

Grab the mast with both hands. Let it swing freely. You are in control, although your kit is doing all the work.

    • 6

You should be moving now. Put your hand on the boom so the mast is leading the sail toward the front. In your other hand, take the boom. Lean back and keep your arms straight. Your posture should almost form the number 7.

    • 7

Pull your back hand to accelerate and go forward. To slow down, let it loose. Try to keep your feet behind the mast, with your front foot facing forward.

    • 8

Enjoy the ride. It will be rocky at first, but you will soon learn the ins and outs. Adjust your journey for what works for you. If you get frightened, you can always drop the boom. It will be tiring to readjust your position often, but don't do anything that makes you nervous. Focus on enjoying the adventure and playing it safe when windsurfing!
