How to Tie a Quick Release Towing Knot

When towing something behind a boat or car or even dragging something by hand, you need a knot that does not slip. However, any knot should also be easily released to avoid slow downs when you go to untie it. You can tie a strong holding knot that can be released simply by pulling on the tail where it joins the item being towed.

Instructions

    • 1

Pass the end of the rope through the anchor piece of the object being towed.

    • 2

Hold the two ends of the rope, with the loose end (A) in your left hand. Twist A to make a loop in it and pass the end of it under the main trunk of the rope (B).

    • 3

Take the end of A, which is now on the right, up and over B, and pass through the loop on the left-hand side. Draw the knot tight, without letting the end of the A pull through the loop.
