Chair Lift Mounting Instructions

Chair lifts provide quick transportation to the top of ski and snowboard runs. For many first-time skiers and snowboards, chair lifts are both scary and intimidating. Many riders fear that they will fall off while trying to mount the chair lift. However, chair lifts are very safe, designed to be easy to mount and dismount. If you are unsure about mounting a chair lift, consider a few simple instructions to make your trip up the mountain as safe as possible.

Instructions

    • 1

Prepare to load onto the chair lift. If you are riding a snowboard, disconnect your back from your bindings in order to push yourself into position. If you are on skis, secure your pole's wrist straps around your wrist.

    • 2

Move forward as soon as the chair lift for the party in front of you passes by, stopping at the designated loading zone. You want to be far enough in front of the chair lift that you meet it squarely, rather than on an angle, as the chair lift rotates around the support post.

    • 3

Allow the chair lift to come to you, reaching back with one arm as the chair lift contacts you. Grab onto the back of the chair lift for support. Always remain facing forward so that the chair lift meets both of your legs at the same time.

    • 4

Sit down as the chair lift contacts you and hold on as you leave the ground.
