How to Make Your Own Wrestler Uniform

As the uniform for wrestling, singlets are made of a heavy-duty lycra that clings to an athlete's body so the referee can see all movement during a match. With a moderate amount of sewing ability and some sports gear, you can create your own wrestling singlet and customize your look on the mat.

Things You'll Need

  • Lycra exercise shorts
  • Lycra exercise tank top shirt
  • Fabric marker

Instructions

    • 1

Put on your Lycra shorts and tank top. The shirt measurements will be done while you are wearing the articles of clothing.

    • 2

Check both the shorts and the shirt to ensure they fit comfortably with no wrinkles. Any wrinkles or bumps in the clothing will skew the measurements.

    • 3

Rest your arms at your sides and carefully use a fabric marker to draw a small line on the tank top where it meets the top of the shorts.

    • 4

Add 1/2 inch to the line to allow for the movement that will come from wrestling.

    • 5

Use the fabric measuring tape to trace a line around the entire shirt. Cut the excess shirt off.

    • 6

Turn both the tank top and shorts inside out to prepare them to be sewn together. By using a Lycra tank top, you will not have to hem the sleeves unless you want to add Lycca trim of another color to add detailing to the singlet.

Use your sewing machine to sew the tank top to the inside of the shorts. You will want to use a heavy-duty thread to protect the singlet from coming apart during a wrestling match.
