Lettering Options for Cheer Uniforms

When ordering new uniforms for your cheer squad, common lettering options have numerous options. Some squads choose to showcase the team mascot on the front of the uniform shell, while others prefer the school monogram. Conduct a poll of team members for font style, letter colors and arrangement. In some uniform styles, the skirt may also be adorned with lettering.
  1. Font Style

    • Companies selling cheer uniforms commonly offer a large selection of font styles for custom lettering of shells. Lettering can be ordered in block, script, new wave, varsity, collegiate and custom designs, among others. These options can be placed directly onto the shell by appliquéd tackle twill or monogramming with embroidery thread.

    Pricing

    • Price is a common issue when ordering new uniforms, as many school budgets are slim and fundraising efforts may not have been adequate to go all-out for the attire. The price per uniform is dependent on the number of letters and colors in the chosen display. Many companies do not charge an additional fee, though, for common orientations and font styles.

    Letter Shaping and Orientation

    • Different letter shaping options can be chosen, allowing squads to pick arced, straight, concave, convex, megaphone or custom designs. The letter shape encompasses the entire set of letters, not each individual letter, and are often chosen to complement design of the existing shell. For example, if the uniform top has a downward facing "V" shape with three-striped trim, a low arch or convex style may suit your needs.

    Color

    • Letter sets can be ordered in one-, two- or three-color combinations and may include different color borders and backgrounds for the letters. Uniform companies specializing in cheer outfitting often provide a wide array of colors to match your school colors in any shade. Examples of color options include navy, white, black, red, orange, yellow, royal blue, dark green, kelly green, Carolina blue and maroon.
