How to Memorize Cheers

One of the most fundamental parts of being a cheerleader is learning to perform multiple cheers from memory. When you first join or try out for a squad, you may be overwhelmed by the thought of so much memorization. You can conquer such as task, however, if you implement some helpful strategies that will aid you in memorizing many different types of cheers. Memorizing cheers is a process of training your mind and your body.

Instructions

    • 1

Write out the cheer. The physical act of writing can help to cement the words in your memory.

    • 2

Read two lines of the cheer and say them out loud. Repeat these two lines from memory at least four or five times.

    • 3

Add two more lines to the first two that you memorized, and recite all four lines. Continue buidling your memorization until you've memorized the entire cheer.

    • 4

Perform the movements that accompany the words as you learn the cheer. The physical motions involved can help you to remember the overall cheer more efficiently.

    • 5

Record yourself saying the cheer. Play the recording to yourself during free times in your day. Hearing the cheer will help to reinforce your memory as well.

    • 6

Practice cheers with your friends. As you learn the cheers together, you can help each other. You also will associate things that your friends did or said as you were practicing with the cheers themselves. This creates a context for the cheers, which makes memorizing them easier.
