How to Fix Cheer Hair

Flipping and jumping are the primary concerns of a cheerleader when performing, not hair maintenance. Whether you are sitting on the sidelines doing a floor cheer or you are tossing your teammates into the air, you want your hair to stay out of your face. Pull it back into a casual updo so you are not constantly messing with your hair or dropping another cheerleader because your hair got into your eyes. There are different styles to choose from; pick one that suits your personal taste and the length of your hair.

Instructions

  1. French Braid Ponytail

      Brush hair thoroughly to remove any hair knots. Apply a styling gel to your hair and comb through to distribute evenly.

      Part your hair down the center of your head and create two sections — left and right. Brush the left section smooth and begin to French braid the hair starting at the bang area and working your way down the side of the head.

      Turn the French braid into a standard braid once you reach the nape of your neck. Repeat the process with the right side. If your hair is long enough, you can attach the two side braids at the nape of your neck and create one braid that hangs down your back. Hair that is too short to extend past the nape of the neck can stop before the neckline; secure the hair with small hairbands or school-approved hair clips.

      Spray your hair with a light-hold hairspray to secure the look while you cheer.

    High Ponytail

      Brush your hair to remove any knots or tangles. Apply a dime-size amount of shine serum to your palm and rub your hands together.

      Use the hairbrush to pull all your hair into a ponytail at the peak of your crown. If you are prone to hair bumps when pulling the hair high, secure the hair at the back of your head. Secure the hair with an elastic hairband.

      Wrap a ribbon around the base of the ponytail, over the hairband, in school colors. Tie it into a bow or let the ribbon cascade down your ponytail.

      Spray your hair with a light mist of hairspray to ensure a firm hold.

    Chignon

      Remove any tangles or knots with a hair brush and pull the hair to the top of your crown. Secure the hair into a ponytail by wrapping an elastic hairband around the base.

      Pull the tail of the hair upward and twist. You will continue to twist the hair until it begins to coil downward.

      Wrap the hair around the base of the ponytail and secure it with school-approved hair clips. In addition, wrap a ribbon or elastic hairband around the base with school colors, or wrap an elastic headband around your bang area for additional support.
