How to Install Pigtails on a Kiteboarding Kite
In the sport of kiteboarding, pigtails are used to facilitate easy connection between the kite and the lines that control it. A short length of cording with a loop at one end and several knots along its length is permanently mounted to the kite on each of the four corners, whether it be a bow or C-shaped kite, upon which the bar and lines are attached via a loop fastened around one of the knots. Pigtails are easy to connect to your kite, but must be done properly to ensure correct operation and control of your kite.

1
Lay out your kite on the floor, uninflated, and locate the pigtail mounting loop at each corner. This will be a small, strap loop at the apex of each corner.
-
2
Push the loop end of the pigtail through the strap loop.
-
3
Feed the loose end of the pigtail through the loop you just pushed through the strap.
-
4
Pull the loose end away from the kite, cinching the pigtail tight to the strap loop. Repeat this process for the other three corners.
-
5
Tie three evenly spaced knots along the length of the loose ends of the pigtails, if there aren't already some. These are used to vary the length of the lines from the kiteboarding bar to adjust the power of the kite.
