How to Adjust Trucks on Skates

One of the great features of skates is their openness to adjustability. Changing the settings of your skates' trucks will help you find your preferred setup, allowing you to perform to the best of your abilities. While some downhill skaters prefer tight trucks for maximum stability, more technical skaters often choose looser trucks to enhance the skates' maneuverability.       Find the kingpin. The kingpin is the large bolt centered between the two wheels on either side of the truck. The skate truck pivots around the kingpin.

      Rotate the kingpin clockwise with a wrench to tighten the trucks. Tighten the trucks to reduce the mobility of the trucks, making them more stable and rigid.

      Rotate the kingpin counterclockwise with a wrench to loosen the trucks. Loosen the trucks to increase the mobility of the truck, which is great for steering; loose trucks are more prone to wobbling at high speeds, however.
