How to Pop Shuvit for Beginners

After mastering the basics of board control and balance, move on to a beginner trick known as the pop shuvit. While more advanced maneuvers involve the board flipping upside down, your urethane wheels will stay parallel to the ground as the board spins the pop shuvit. A common variation of the trick is known as the frontside pop shuvit. If you ride with your left foot in the lead position, the front side pop shuvit will spin in a counterclockwise motion. Pro rider Garret Hill recommends catching the pop shuvit with your front foot. (see References 1)

Instructions

    • 1

Place your lead shoe on the grip tape near the center of the board. Align the toes of your front foot over the outer edge of the board. Accelerate the skateboard by thrusting off the pavement with your opposing foot.

    • 2

Lift your pushing foot onto the skateboard tail as you attain an adequate speed. Bend your knees to compress your riding stance. Push down with your back foot while lifting your lead foot.

    • 3

Straighten your back leg to perform an aerial jump. Kick your lead foot backwards against the exterior edge of the skateboard. Thrust your back foot forward to scoop the tail and rotate the board.

    • 4

Elevate your shoes to hover above the board as it turns 180 degrees. Place your lead shoe over the forward bolts of the skateboard as it concludes the pop shuvit. Position your back foot over the rear bolts as the wheels land onto the ground.
