How to Land a Pop Shuvit

Whether you are a novice skateboarder or a professional, the "pop shuvit" (or pop shove-it) is among the essential tricks someone should learn when looking to improve their street skateboarding skill. The move spins the board 180 degrees, parallel to the ground, beneath the rider's feet while they are momentarily suspended in air. While the pop shuvit appears impressively difficult to perform, it is among the simpler tricks to master on a skateboard. Learning it can also be a stepping stone to mastering a host of other skateboard tricks.

Instructions

    • 1

Place your back foot on the tail, or back end, of the skateboard and your front foot wherever is most comfortable between the middle of the board and the front trucks (the axle assembly where wheels meet board). Ensure that you are not leaning too far in any direction and maintain your center of gravity over the board.

    • 2

Push down and backward on the tail of the skateboard in one swift motion with your back foot, while simultaneously sliding your front foot forward to the outer edge of the board. This will cause the board to spin counter-clockwise.

    • 3

Use the weight on your back foot to jump in the air, allowing the board to spin beneath you. Adjust the strength of your back-foot push and your jump on future attempts based on how quickly the board spins beneath you.

    • 4

Keep your eye on the board at all times throughout the trick so you know when to land. Brace yourself to land on the skateboard as it completes the full 180 degrees.

    • 5

Bend your knees and spread out your arms, parallel to the ground, to absorb the impact and help you maintain balance when regaining contact with the board. Your feet should land on the board about where the front and back trucks are.
