How to Turn a Cement Slab Into a Homemade Skate Park

While some skateboarders don't mind paying the entrance fee to a professionally built skate park, others prefer to construct their own custom obstacles on large cement slabs. These DIY skate parks are often built on the cement foundation of old buildings and warehouses. As opposed to commercial skate parks that enforce regulations regarding hours of operation, you can skate at your homemade training facility any time you want. According to "Transworld Skateboard" magazine, skate parks often feature cement ledges and wooden ramps.

Instructions

    • 1

Avoid trespassing on private property by asking permission to build your homemade skate park. Transport your building materials to the designated location. Clean the cement slab of small rocks and debris using a push broom.

    • 2

Lower the piece of plywood onto the ground while preparing the jigsaw. Instruct a friend or fellow skater to hold one edge of the plywood off the ground. Cut the plywood in half to create two pieces that measure 4-by-4 feet.

    • 3

Place the pieces of plywood on the slab where you would like to build the ramps. Lower two cinder blocks onto the ground in a horizontal position. Spread the cinder blocks 3-feet apart.

    • 4

Lower one piece of plywood onto the cinder blocks. Align the edge of the plywood onto the cinder blocks to create an inclined ramp. Slide two bricks under the plywood for increased support.

    • 5

Place the piece of sheet metal at the bottom of the ramp to function as the roll up. Apply duct tape around the sheet metal to prevent it from sliding. Construct an identical ramp with the remaining piece of plywood.

    • 6

Lower four cinder blocks onto the cement slab between your two newly built ramps. Apply liquid cement onto the edges of the cinder blocks. Align the cinder blocks in a horizontal row.

    • 7

Squeeze the liquid cement along the underside of the angle iron. Place the angle iron across the long edge of the cement ledge. Allow the adhesive to dry for 2 hours to complete your homemade skate park.
