Tanner Skatepark Directions

Tanner Park is located in the town of Copiague on the south shore of Long Island in New York's Suffolk County. Tanner Park is home to the Tanner Skatepark, which is equipped with two half-pipes, ride rails and plenty of blacktop. The park fronts onto the Great South Bay, a protected waterway that sits between the barrier Oak and Fire Islands and Long Island. New York City is located about 43 miles to the west of the park and Montauk is located about 85 miles to the east. The park is reachable by car or train, from NYC or the east end of Long Island.

      Drive through the Midtown Tunnel. The main entrance to the tunnel is located at 36th Street and Second Avenue in Manhattan. Pay the toll as you exit the tunnel in Queens and follow the signs straight onto the Long Island Expressway (LIE). Take the LIE about 13 miles to exit 31 South, onto the Cross Island Parkway South. Remain on the Cross Island Parkway for 5.5 miles, until the road ends at the junction with the Southern State Parkway East -- exit 25A.

      Drive east on the Southern State Parkway about 16.5 miles to exit 32S, which is Route 110 South. Stay on Route 110S for 2.6 miles, until the road ends at the junction of Route 27A (Montauk Highway). Turn left onto Route 27A and head east 1.2 miles to Baylawn Avenue. Turn right on Baylawn and drive straight .6 miles to the entrance of Tanner Park. The skate park is located at the center of the park, just south of the basketball courts.

      Drive west on Route 27 -- Sunrise Highway, if coming from the East -- to exit 37, which is Route 109 South (Babylon Farmingdale Road). Drive south on Route 109S about 3 miles to the junction with Route 27A West. Turn right onto Route 27A West and drive to Baylawn Avenue. Turn left on Baylawn Avenue and drive straight .6 miles to the entrance of Tanner Park.

    By Train

      Board the Long Island Railroad in Penn Station, located at 34th Street and Eighth Avenue in Midtown Manhattan. Take the Lindenhurst-bound train, towards eastern Long Island and get off at the Copiague Station. The ride should take around 68 minutes and cost around $13.50 peak and $9.75 off-peak, as of March, 2011.

      Walk, skate, or take a taxi from the Copiague Long Island Railroad Station to Tanner Park. Head south for .8 miles on County Road 47, which turns into Great Neck Road, before ending at Route 27A (Montauk Highway).

      Turn right onto Route 27A and head west one block to Baylawn avenue. Turn left onto Baylawn and continue straight for .6 miles to the entrance of Tanner Park. The skate park is located at the center of the park just south of the basketball courts.
