How to Put My Photo on a Skateboarding Magazine Cover

Getting your photo on a skateboarding magazine cover may not be so difficult if you happen to be a professional skateboarder like Marc Johnson. For the rest of us, we may have to settle for a doctored photograph. That's easy to accomplish with the right tools and a game plan.

      Find the perfect magazine cover. Like all sports, there are myriad magazines that cover the topic of skateboarding. Search your local newsstands, book stores or go online for a skateboarding magazine. Transworld Skateboarding and Thrasher Magazine are the most reputable skateboarding magazines. When selecting the right cover, try and find one with someone who resembles you, i.e., they are the same gender, race, have a similar build and style. It will also help if the background in the picture is fairly plain, like the sky or a nondescript wall.

      Scan the magazine cover into your computer. Make sure your scanner is properly connected to your computer and powered on. Place the magazine cover face down on the scanner, aligning it with the correct guides. Close the cover and either press the scan button or scan it with the scanning software on your computer. If you want a color photo, you'll have to specify the output type as color. Save the scanned photo into a folder on your computer. Find a photo of yourself, preferably one similar in size and color to the magazine photo and scan it into the computer. Save it in the same folder with the cover photo, calling it a different name. It's important that you use the same settings when scanning both photos.

      Open your photo editing software. Import the magazine cover photo. Usually you can use the Open function in the software, browse for the photo and select it. Other software give you the option of choosing in what size and resolution you want to import the image. Now, import the photo of yourself into the editing software. Using a select tool, select your face from your self portrait. Copy your face with the File>Copy function in the software. Now select the magazine cover. Paste your face into the magazine photo by selecting File>Paste in the software. Depending on how well the photos match, your face may need to be re-sized, moved or colored to blend in. Most photo editing software have these features.

      Save the new, doctored photograph as a new file in the folder where you've saved your other work. Print the photo using a color printer, post it on the Internet or email it to someone. You are now on a skateboarding magazine cover.
