How to Troubleshoot a Cybex 530C

The Cybex 530C is an upright, indoor exercise bike. It offers 21 pedal resistance levels and two programming modes. In manual mode, you control the pedal resistance; in program mode, you select one of 11 programs that automatically controls the pedal resistance for you. The 530C has pulse sensors on the handlebars so you can track your heart rate during your workout. Although you should contact Cybex if you have any major problems with your bike, you can troubleshoot some problems yourself.

Instructions

  1. The Machine Rocks

    • 1

Gently lay your 530C bike on its side so you can access the leveling feet on the bottom of the unit. Locate the leveling feet on the rear stabilizer bar.

    • 2

Turn the feet up or down as needed.

    • 3

Set the bike upright and test it for any rocking motion. Repeat Steps 1 through 3 if necessary.

    No Pulse Displaying

    • 4

Wash your hands. Lotions, oils and dirt can interfere with the heart rate reading. Grab and hold the metal sensors on the handlebars.

    • 5

Hold for at least 30 seconds. Do not grip the sensors too tightly. Make sure your hands make contact with the front and the back of the sensors. Do not move your hands while attempting to read your heart rate.

    • 6

Dampen a soft cloth with an alcohol-based cleaning solution and wipe down the pulse sensors,if you are not getting a pulse reading.

    Ticking Noise or Thumping

    • 7

Unplug the power adapter. Kneel next to the pedal assembly. The crank arm attaches the pedal to the frame of the bike. Use the Allen wrench to remove the screw and washer that hold the crank arm in place. Pull off the crank arm. Repeat on the other pedal.

    • 8

Stand at the front of the bike, facing it. Find the front cap. It is located where the support bar that holds the console slides into the bike frame. Use the Phillips screwdriver to remove the three screws in the cap. Pull the cap off the bike.

    • 9

Use the screwdriver to remove the six screws holding the top cap in place. If you sit on the seat and look down, you are looking at the top cap. Pull the top cap off the bike.

    • 10

Remove the seven screws in the right cover and pull the cover off. Remove the two screws holding the left cover in place and pull the cover off.

    • 11

Locate the primary and secondary drive belts. Rotate the belts slowly and look for any signs of wear, such as tears or cracks. Contact Cybex for a new belt if there are signs of wearing.
