How to Troubleshoot the Stairmaster 4000 PT

The Stairmaster 4000 PT is designed for use in a fitness center or home environment and mimics the motion of climbing stairs for aerobic benefit. The machine is sold in many fitness supply stores as well as online, and includes an electronic display monitor, hand rails, heart rate monitoring, intensity keypads and various workout profiles. While the Stairmaster can generally be expected to work well under most circumstances, if owners are having problems with the device, some troubleshooting may be useful.

Instructions

    • 1

Connect the Stairmaster 4000 to a grounded electrical supply if the unit is not turning on or working. Replace or reset the circuit breaker or fuse as necessary. Turn the main power switch to “On” before use.

    • 2

Unplug the unit if “Select Workout” does not appear on the display after the machine is turned on. Wait several minutes and restore power to reset the machine.

    • 3

Wipe the heart rate sensors and hand rails with a clean, dry towel if the heart rate monitor is not working.

    • 4

Follow the prompts on the console to enter in the user’s body weight and desired workout level, followed by “Enter” if the values on the console do not seem correct. The user settings automatically default to a weight of 175 pounds and an intensity level of 3 if other levels are not entered when “Select Workout” is pressed.

    • 5

Move the pedals or press a console key within 60 seconds of pressing the “Stop” key if the console turns off automatically after a button is pressed.

    • 6

Use the arrow buttons to alter the workout intensity and/or incline during the workout if the workout seems too easy or too hard. Allow a few seconds for the machine to change the incline or intensity.
