How to Walk in the Rain
Things You'll Need
- Jacket
- Waterproof shoes
- Hat
- Synthetic socks
Instructions
-
Bring Along an Umbrella
-
1
Carry a small, collapsible umbrella for heavy downpours. These lightweight umbrellas fit inside a pocket.
-
2
Tell your walking partner to bring an umbrella for himself. One umbrella and two people can cause bad feelings.
Keep Your Feet Dry
-
3
Visit online stores such as Sierra Trading Post to buy lined waterproof walking shoes (see below).
-
4
Save money by wearing your regular walking shoes with rubber rain shoes over them.
-
5
Waterproof your own walking shoes. Purchase some leather sealer at a craft or shoe store and apply, making sure to cover the shoe seams.
-
6
Wear non-cotton moisture wicking socks. Cotton socks will cause blisters quickly when wet.
-
7
Check out products like Sealskinz waterproof, breathable sport socks (see below).
-
8
Consider wearing a pair of gaiters (waterproof socks that fit over your shoes and lower leg). You can find gaiters at ski or outdoor sports retailers, such as Sierra Trading Post.
Don a Waterproof Cover-Up
-
9
Check out Sierra Trading Post for a selection of waterproof coats to keep the rain off your back.
-
10
Create your own rain slicker by cutting a neck opening in a large plastic trash bag. This unfashionable poncho is nonetheless effective for a spontaneous walk in the rain.
-
11
Opt for old-fashioned rubberized pants to keep your legs dry. Keep in mind that these will not breathe, so they aren't recommended for fast walking.
-
12
Wear your microfiber running pants. Microfiber dries very quickly.
Keep the Rain Off Your Head
-
13
Wear a hat made of waterproof material.
-
14
Waterproof your own cap by spraying it with a fabric-guard product like Scotch Guard.
