Specifications for an Osprey Aether 45

When choosing a backpack for your next hiking trip, it is important to consider each pack's specifications before making a decision. The Osprey Aether 45 is a high-quality frameless pack with easy access to gear and internal accessories. While not the biggest of Osprey packs, the Aether 45 has heavy duty buckles, is made of durable material and weighs in around 2.5 pounds.
  1. Backpack Style

    • The Osprey 45 is a frameless pack, meaning there are no external frames for support. With double-panel support on the back, the pack can hold over 20 pounds without a problem. Shoulder pads are fitted with foam for a comfortable carry, and the back panel is made to wick sweat away from the carrier. The pack is loaded from the top and features a waist strap for support.

    Size, Volume and Weight

    • The Osprey 45 comes in three different sizes and volumes. The smallest measures 14 to 18.5 inches, holds approximately 43 liters, and weighs 28 ounces. The medium size measures 16 to 20.5 inches, holds 46 liters, and weighs 30 ounces; the large pack measures 20 to 22 inches, holds 49 liters of materials and weighs in at 36 ounces.

    Load Capacity

    • Osprey estimates the Aether 45 can hold 30 pounds comfortably in the pack. Loads over 35 pounds begin to overwhelm the pack, place added weight on the waist belt and may collapse the structure of the pack.

    Materials and Features

    • The Osprey Aether 45 is not waterproof; however, it does provide some resistance to water. The pack has internally webbed seams and a tough Cordura bottom. All strap attachments and buckles are tacked in for added support, and foam is added to the waist belt, back panel and shoulder straps for added comfort. Strap buckles feature high quality Duratex clips.

    Disadvantages

    • For its size, the Aether 45 is not the lightest pack available. Additionally, the external pockets are hard to reach while wearing the pack.
