How to Install R & R Trigger Guard on Saiga 12

The Saiga 12-gauge semiautomatic shotgun is manufactured in Russia by OJSC Iszhmash and imported into the United States by the Russian American Armory Company. Based on the battle-tested design of the AK-47, the Saiga 12 features a standard rifle grip and stock. R and R Targets, based in Oregon, produces a trigger guard assembly for the Saiga 12 that allows the installation of an aftermarket pistol grip. R and R Targets recommends professional installation of the assembly, but if you have some experience at modifying firearms, you can install the trigger guard yourself.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the magazine from your Saiga and pull the operating rod handle all the way to the rear to eject any chambered ammunition. Visually inspect the chamber to ensure that no ammunition is loaded in the weapon. Set the Saiga's safety to the safe position. Secure the firearm in a padded gun vise with the bottom of the receiver facing up.

    • 2

Locate the screw at the back of the factory trigger guard assembly. Use the Phillips screwdriver to remove the screw by turning it counterclockwise. Pull the factory trigger guard assembly away from the receiver and set it aside.

    • 3

Place the R and R trigger guard against the bottom of the receiver. Align the trigger guard with the screw hole for the factory mounting screw and run the screw back into the receiver hand-tight to temporarily secure the trigger guard in place.

    • 4

Align the trigger guard with the sides of the receiver. Use the pencil to mark the receiver with the location of the screw hole at the front of the trigger guard. Remove the rear screw again and set the R and R trigger guard aside.

    • 5

Drill a 1/8-inch pilot hole into the receiver at the marked location. Drill just deeply enough for the self-tapping mounting screw to grip the receiver -- no more than 1/8-inch.

    • 6

Place the R and R trigger guard on the bottom of the receiver. Screw in and tighten the rear mounting screw. Insert the self-tapping screw supplied with the trigger guard into the front mounting hole, then screw it in until tight.
