How to Get to the Starter on a 1996 Yamaha Wave Venture Jet Ski

When it is necessary to gain access to the starter on the 1996 Yamaha Wave Venture, you face a small expedition. The starter is located just to the left of the centerline of the vessel, amidships — it's in the center of the engine compartment, on the left side of the engine. While knowing such lore may seem comforting, when you must get to the starter on the Wave Venture, these nuggets of information prove useful.

Instructions

    • 1

Move the vessel out of the water. Station the vessel on its trailer or settle it onto the ground in the same position as if you were riding it.

    • 2

Grasp the rear seat latch with one hand. Squeeze the latch handle and lift the back edge of the rear seat. Lift the rear seat free of the vessel.

    • 3

Locate the front seat release latch, under the back of the front seat. Lift the latch handle. Swing the seat's rear edge up and forward to free it from the vessel.

    • 4

Locate the starter motor, attached to the left side of the engine block by two 8 mm bolts — one on the top of the starter motor and one on the bottom of the starter motor.

    • 5

Push the front edge of the front seat in place and push the rear edge of the seat downward, until it latches into place. Position the front of the rear seat against the rear of the front seat. Swing the rear of the seat downward, while pushing forward on the rear edge of the seat, until the rear seat latch engages.
