How to Change the Oil on a Jet Ski

Jet skiing is a form of recreation for those who enjoy speed and the open water. The term "Jet Ski" is a brand of personal water craft that is manufactured by Kawasaki Heavy Industries. Jet skis can reach speeds of 40 to 50 mph and require regular maintenance in order to achieve maximum performance. Changing the oil after every 25 to 30 hours of use will decrease wear and tear on your motor.

  • 4 stroke jet ski engine oil
  • PWC oil change pump
  • Oil filter wrench
  • Jet ski oil filter
  • Shop rag

      Start the motor to warm up the jet ski for several minutes. Turn off the motor and put the watercraft in a horizontal position.

      Remove the oil cap from the tank, which should be clearly marked and located on the left hand side of the motor. Slide the tube of the oil change pump into the oil filler hole.

      Use the oil change pump to extract the oil from the tank and transfer it into a container for recycling.

      Replace the oil filter. Place a rag under the oil filter and remove it by turning it counterclockwise with an oil filter wrench. Lubricate the O-ring of the new oil filter with a thin coat of oil. Make sure the O-ring is seated correctly, and screw in the new filter.

      Consult your owner's manual for the recommended oil weight and amount. Pour the specified amount of oil into the filler hole.

      Put the oil cap back on the tank. Position the threads and secure it firmly to the tank.
