Dirt Bike Trails in New Mexico

New Mexico has a lot of desert areas and dunes that are suitable for riding dirt bikes. Some are privately owned and well maintained, while others are on public land and not maintained as well. New Mexico also has private tracks for motocross racing of dirt bikes. There are a few places in New Mexico that offer free riding opportunities for dirt bike enthusiasts.

  1. Farmington Dunes OHV Area

    • This off-road riding area is located near Farmington, New Mexico. It has a desert climate with hills and dunes. This riding area totals about 800 acres and allows camping. The terrain is mostly for amateurs and novices. There are hazards about, so use caution when in the area.

    Mescalero Sand Dunes

    • These riding dunes are located about 36 miles east of Roswell. The dunes offer 610 acres of desert riding with about the same difficulty of terrain as Farmington. Mescalero is open year-round and has picnic tables and shelters.

    New Ventures Racing Promotions MX Park

    • New Ventures Racing Promotions MX Park is a 10 acre motocross and ATV park that has both a 1.4 mile motocross track and an 8-mile grand prix track. NVRP also has about 9,000 miles of riding trails next to it in addition to the track. It has less difficult terrain than either Farmington or Mesclaro.
