Dirt Bike Trails in New York

With its numerous natural attractions that include large tracts of largely undeveloped forested areas and the Adirondack Mountains, New York is a mecca for dirt-bike riding. Trails for dirt bikes are located in many parts of the state. The state has trails for riders of all levels; many of these paths are open throughout the year. Some of the facilities require membership in TrailPass, which is a network of private trails around the state.
  1. Brooke's Family ATV Park

    • Situated north of Glen Falls and not far from the Vermont border, Brooke's Family ATV Park in Warrensburg is one choice for families with younger children. It features mostly amateur terrain trails for ATV and trail-bike riders on its 365 acres. The trails wind their way through forested areas and along ponds. The trails are mostly hard packed with some rocks; they also have a handful of muddy spots, particularly after it rains. The park has intermediate trails for more experienced riders. Taking advantage of the Adirondack Mountains in the area, these trails have changes in elevations. Rider Planet USA gives it high marks, and says it is open from spring until Oct. 1. As of the fall of 2010, the daily fee was $20 for adults and $15 for children. A TrailPass membership card is required.

    Camden ATV Trail

    • The Camden ATV Trail is in upstate New York and northeast of Syracuse. It features a variety of terrain for different-level riders, including novice and intermediate riders. It has 5 miles of trails that go through fields, mud holes and wooded areas. The trails wind their way up and down slopes. It has multiple inter-looping trails and is a good choice for groups, according to the Trail Pass website. The property includes a 2-acre parking lot. The Camden ATV Trail is open throughout the year, although it is closed from 6 a.m. to noon on days during the hunting season. The trails are generally well maintained. They are mostly hard-packed and do have some rocks. Hazards are marked. In December of 2010, the riding fee was $50 with membership in TrailPass also required.

    Valley View Family ATV

    • In the south-central part of New York, the Valley View Family ATV facility features various motorcycle trails as well as a beginner's ATV course and motorcycle course. Open every day from dusk to dawn, it also has advanced rider opportunities. The trails include water crossings and marked hazards. All riders must wear helmets. The trails are also used for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. Valley View Family ATV provides a lot more than the chance to ride dirt bikes; also on the property are nature and walking trails, restrooms, camping facilities and an area for enjoying picnics. It also has a museum with more than 25 stuffed animals. It is closed during the hunting season. The cost was $20 per rider for an all-day pass in the fall of 2010.
