DIY Grip Mounted Laser Sight

Laser sights are often installed on rifles, shotguns and handguns as an aid in acquiring targets. Use by sportsmen, law enforcement officers and military personnel, laser sights are available from several different manufacturers. Laser sights are designed to be mounted in different locations on the weapon, including the grips. Laser grips feature the laser as part of the grip itself. Sight grips are often installed by gunsmiths, but many shooters prefer to install the grips at home.

Instructions

    • 1

Safety the handgun by removing the magazine and pulling back the slide; inspect the firing chamber. Open the cylinder of a revolver to check for ammunition.

    • 2

Remove the screws holding the handgun's grips in place. Use the appropriate screwdriver; the type needed varies with the handgun's make and model. Pull the grips from the gun, and store them in a safe location.

    • 3

Remove the laser-sight grips from the packaging. Avoid bending or twisting the grips; this prevents potential damage to the laser-sight components.

    • 4

Install a wafer battery into the grips, with the positive-side up. Wipe the metal-grip frame of the handgun with a rag. Apply a drop of gun oil to the rag. Wipe down the frame's grip to add a protective coating against rust.

    • 5

Place the included dust shield on the grip frame on one side of the weapon. Place the laser-sight grip on the frame; securely attach it with the screw that was removed earlier. Use the driver and bit to secure the screw in place.

    • 6

Turn the handgun over, and place the remaining dust shield on the grip frame. Place the laser sight on the handgun; attach it securely with the screw that was removed earlier.
