1
Use a utility knife to remove the old grips. Cut off the old grips using a utility knife. Start at the lip and cut along the length. Strip them off with a putty knife.
-
2
Remove any sticky residue with grip solvent. Wash the area with warm soapy water to remove all traces of solvent. Dry with a soft cloth.
-
3
Place the new grip on the shaft and make a mark on the shaft where the grip ends. Take off the grip.
-
4
Wrap the shaft with the grip tape starting at the bottom where your mark is. Go up the shaft in a spiral motion, taking care not to overlap the tape. Extend the tape 1/2-inch above the end of the shaft.
-
5
Peel the backing paper from the grip tape. Push or twist the edges of the tape over the hole in the top of the shaft to prevent solvent from entering the shaft.
-
6
Place your finger over the vent hole of the grip. Pour the solvent into the grip, filling one-third of the length.
-
7
Pour the solvent from the grip out and over the tape on the shaft. Wet the tape completely.
-
8
Push the grip onto the shaft using a quick, smooth motion. Push down on the grip until you can feel that it has reached the end of the shaft. If the grip has alignment marks, make sure they are facing in the right direction. You now have 5 to 10 minutes to make adjustments before the solvent dries.
-
9
Hold the club to make sure the grip feels properly aligned. Hold your club as if you were playing and make sure the grip feels like it is in the right place. Twist the grips if they need to be moved. Let the club dry 30 minutes before using.
