Thule Fit Kit 2142 Instructions

The Thule Fit Kit 2142 is a tower and crossbar rack system made for specific vehicle models such as a Toyota Prius hybrid. The Fit Kit is designed to install without tools and secure to the roof. Thule makes the rack system to be modular, with the 2142 model being the base for all bike, ski or sports racks to be added later. The installation takes approximately one hour. The rack is rated to 165 pounds.

Instructions

    • 1

Lay out the four rack towers, which attach to the roof and secure the crossbars, and put the foot plate pieces next to them. Push the foot plate knobs up through the retaining holes on the rack towers and pinch the plastic side locks until they click into place.

    • 2

Place the four rack towers onto the roof of the Prius so they align across from each other, making two sets of two aligned rack towers. Place the lock plates onto the side of the towers and screw in the locking wing-bars to tighten them onto the roof. Make sure the metal lip of each lock plate hooks under the rain gutter of the roof.

    • 3

Slide the crossbars through the rack towers so they are perpendicular to the roof. Make sure the front crossbar and towers are a minimum of 12 inches from the windshield and that the two sets of bars are at least 24 inches apart.

Look from the front of the car to check the alignment of the rack. Add modular pieces as necessary or desired to the fit kit 2142.
