How to Tie a D-Ring Belt

A D-ring belt buckle uses two D-shaped (or round) rings sewn onto the end of the belt. There are no holes or hooks on these belts, as the tension of the belt strap between the D-rings holds it together, keeping your pants or cargo shorts up. Obviously, a belt keeps the trousers in place, preventing public embarrassments or slapstick like de-pantsing. A D-ring belt is very easy to use and is often found in use in the outdoor community.

Instructions

    • 1

Thread the belt through the shorts or pants belt loops. Keep the D-rings so they end up on the left-hand side of the pants or shorts.

    • 2

Pull the right side of the belt through both D-rings. Pull the end back toward the right side and thread the end between the two rings.

    • 3

Pull the end of the strap through the two rings and notice the tension on the rings increase. The strap is now locking the two rings close together and tightening the waistline of the garment. Tighten to comfort and let go.

    • 4

Grip the end of the upper ring and pull up to loosen the tension and release the strap from the D-rings.
