How to Use a 7030 Famous Trails Metal Detector

If you are a beach goer you may be used to seeing metal detectors and treasure hunters. The metal detectors look like a round disc or ring attached to a long metal rod. Users have ear phones on. When the ring passes over metal coins or objects, the noise in the earphones changes pitch, indicating the metal object. Famous Trails makes the 7030 metal detector, which is designed to be easy to use right out of the box.

Instructions

    • 1

Place the 7030 on a flat table with no metal around. Point the search coil so it faces up at the ceiling. The search coil is the black ring at the base of the device.

    • 2

Open the battery housing on the top of the 7030 and insert the two 9-volt batteries. Close the housing. Turn the "Frequency" dial to "VLF." Turn the "Ground" dial to the 1 o'clock setting. Place the "Sensitivity" dial to the "Mid-Range" position. Place the "Discrimination" dial to "Mid-Range". Adjust the volume to your desired setting. For safety's sake, keep the volume around the center or mid-range setting.

    • 3

Press the 7030's red button and wait for a red light to come on. When you see the red light, the 7030 is ready to find metal.

    • 4

Go outside to a beach or area to search and slowly pass the search ring over the ground approximately 6 inches above the surface. Stop and dig when the 7030 gives a high-pitched noise over the headphones.

    • 5

Adjust the "Sensitivity" and "Discrimination" dials to adjust depth and pitch for the metal search.
