How to Install a Kill Switch for a Motorized Bicycle

Having a kill switch on your motorized bike is essential to safety. Yes, you can stop your engine by releasing the clutch lever with the brakes on with the engine idling, but that's complicated, and what if you were going fast and needed to kill the engine on the spot? A kill switch is the answer for keeping you as safe and in control of your bike as possible.

Instructions

    • 1

Determine the position of your kill switch on the left handlebar. Remove and place duct or electrical tape over your handlebar where the switch will be installed if wanted to protect your handlebar's finish.

    • 2

Mount the kill switch on your handlebar using the bracket, screw and nut that came with the kill switch. Apply loctite to the nut to prevent it from shaking loose from motor vibration.

    • 3

Attach the wire coming out of your kill switch to the white wire (or whatever color wire your instructions say is for the kill switch) coming from your engine.

    • 4

Route your kill switch wires out and away from the engine and exhaust to protect your wires from the engine heat.

    • 5

Secure your wires to your bike with zip ties.
