How to Stop on Rollerblades Without Brakes

Whether you're just learning to rollerblade or you're an expert skater, it's critical to know how to stop safely in every situation. Some in-line skates don't have brakes on them, and you can't always count on finding a soft grassy area to help you slow down. A popular way to stop without using brakes is the T-stop. It's a relatively easy maneuver that you can master with a little practice. When you feel comfortable stopping, you'll be a more confident skater.

Instructions

    • 1

Place your weight on your leading leg. This may be your right or left leg, and is usually your dominant leg.

    • 2

Bend your knees slightly. This will help you keep your balance while stopping.

    • 3

      Keep both skates pointing forward.

    • 4

Lift your rear skate and place it behind your other skate, perpendicular to it. The instep of your rear skate should be near the heel of the front skate.Your skates should form a "T."

    • 5

Place gentle pressure on the rear skate. The friction of the wheels on the ground will stop your front skate from rolling, and you will slow to a stop.
