Southern Wisconsin Snowmobile Trails

Southern Wisconsin sits just north of Illinois and is home to numerous counties that offer miles of snowmobile trails. Outdoor enthusiasts can find trails in the counties of Green, Lafayette, Iowa, Grant, Dane and Lafayette.
  1. Cheese Country Snowmobile Trail

    • The Cheese Country Snowmobile Trail spans a total of 43 miles through the southern counties of Green, Iowa and Lafayette. This trail allows a variety of transporters to follow its paths, including snowmobiles, ATVs and horses for horseback riding. The most renowned feature of the Cheese Country Snowmobile Trail is the 440 foot bridge that spans the Pecatonica River.

    Crawford County Snowmobile Trail

    • The Crawford Country Snowmobile Trail covers 76 miles from Richland County through Vernon County. Travelers along this trail can enjoy views of Mount Zion, Prairie du Chien and Eastman.

    Governor Dodge Snowmobile Trail

    • The Governor Dodge Snowmobile Trail is located in Iowa County and spans a total of 15 miles. The trail features such sites as lakes, streams, fields and hardwood trees. The trail also travels across numerous bridges. Travelers on this trail can connect to the 37-mile Military Ridge Snowmobile Trail, which spans Dane and Iowa counties.

    Lafayette County Snowmobile Trail

    • The 153-mile Lafayette County Snowmobile Trail traverses Iowa, Green and Grant counties in southern Wisconsin. The state funds 98 of the trail's miles, while 55 miles are club-maintained. This trail features agricultural land spotted with trees and dense woods.

    • The Sugar River Snowmobile Trail, which spans 23 miles through Green County, is listed as an abandoned railroad grade. The trail can be accessed from numerous locations, including Albany, Brodhead, Monticello and New Glarus. The trail is accessible 24 hours a day.
