Trails in Bayfield County near Iron River run in all directions. They share the region with the Chequemegon National Forest, which covers an area of 858,400 acres. It is home to wolves, elk, bears, deer and other mammals and birds. Riders on Iron River snowmobile trails may see some of this wildlife as they traverse Wisconsin's northern wilderness.
Trail 63

Trail 63 is a scenic snowmobile trail in southern Bayfield County. It crosses three restored railroad trestles from which riders can enjoy panoramic views of the region. These trestles cross the Namakagon River and 18 Mile Creek. Trail 63 is a north-south trail. It runs through the towns of Cable, Drummond, Grandview and Mason.
Trails 7 and 8

Trail 7 runs east from the town of Cable in the southeastern portion of Bayfield County. Snowmobile riders can follow this trail to find Lake Namakagon, a scenic area and the site of Wisconsin's 10th largest natural lake. Trail 7 connects to Trail 8, which runs south towards the Rock Lake Semi-Primitive Area. This location is home to several native Wisconsin wildlife plants and animals.
Licensing and Registration

If you are visiting Iron River's snowmobiling trails from out of state and your snowmobile is registered in a state other than Wisconsin, you must pay $35 for a non-resident 2011 trail pass sticker. Obtain one through the Iron River Chamber of Commerce, through Wisconsin's Department of Natural Resources or anywhere in the region that sells hunting and fishing licenses. You must display all stickers and proof of registration in the state in which your vehicle is registered.
