Snowmobile Trails in Ohio

With an average yearly snowfall throughout Ohio ranging from 27 to nearly 57 inches each winter, the Buckeye State is an ideal destination for snowmobilers. Most of the state's popular snowmobile trails are in municipal or state parks and forests. Snowmobile riding hours there are limited from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. and to when the ground is frozen and completely covered with snow or ice.
  1. Buck Creek State Park

    • Known for its 2,120-acre lake in Clark County in South Central Ohio, Buck Creek allows snowmobiling on its 7.5 miles of bridle trails when they are covered with snow. The terrain of the trail varies moderately in elevation.

    Deer Creek State Park

    • Deer Creek in Franklin County is surrounded by a scenic reservoir, meadows and woodlands. This 2,337-acre resort park allows snowmobiling on its 18-mile bridle trail during the winter months.

    Maumee State Forest

    • Not far from Toledo, Maumee State Forest has more than five miles of trails exclusively used by all-purpose vehicles and even snowmobiles, depending on the weather conditions.

    Mosquito Lake State Park

    • This state park in northeast Ohio offers snowmobilers access to nearly 30 miles of snowmobile trails, including 14 miles of shoreline and 15 miles of wooded trails. Because of its location, Mosquito Lake has more winter snow than the rest of the state, making it ideal for snowmobiling.

    Ohio to Erie Trail

    • The Ohio to Erie Trail is an off-road, multi-use trail that stretches from Cincinnati to Cleveland on lands formerly owned by railroads and canals. Of the 453 miles of the trail, 262 miles are completed and open to the public for biking, hiking, horseback riding and snowmobiling. When complete, the paved trail will link Cincinnati, Columbus, Akron and Cleveland.

    Salt Fork State Park

    • Ohio's largest state park, Salt Fork boasts 17,229-acres of recreational facilities for nearly every activity, including 19 dedicated trails for snowmobiling. Located in forested hills and open meadows of Guernsey County, Salt Fork also has cottages and a lodge that features a dining room, coffee shop, snack bar, lounge, lobby and indoor game area.

    Western Reserve Gateway

    • Known for the heaviest snows in the state, Ashtabula County Western Reserve Greenway (loosely referred to as "The Trail" or "The Greenway") has 43 miles of terrain for snowmobilers to ride. A former right-of-way rail line that closed in 1976, much of the trail passes through rural country in northwestern Ohio.
