Surf Camps in Nicaragua

Nicaragua is 2,000 miles by plane from the United States. The country has become increasingly popular as a destination for travelers because the beaches of neighboring Costa Rica have become crowded and over-developed. Cheaper than Costa Rica, although less accessible, the Pacific coast of Nicaragua offers surf camps for all ability levels and ages so that everyone can enjoy world class surfing.

  1. Nicaragua Surf Report Surf School

    • The first surf school in the country, this San Juan Del Sur surf camp offers packages and lessons for all ages and is appropriate for those at the beginner and intermediate levels. The school offers a week-long surf camp package that includes a welcome dinner, airport transfers, five or six nights accommodations including three meals per day, and daily surf instruction. In addition to surfing, other activities can be booked through surf report, ranging from Spanish lessons, yoga classes and volcano hikes. Surf lessons are conducted for, on average, four hours per day and use of the schools surf boards all week. There is a surf class for kids who are able to swim and if under age 12 are accompanied by a parent.

    ChicaBrava All Girls Surf Camp & Women's Surf School

    • Founded by a Houston, Texas bred, former attorney and female surfer in 2003, this all women's surf camp translating to "brave girl" in English, provides surf camp packages for beginners, women 40 years of age and older, and all levels of ability. Accommodations range from a luxury resort to a surf camp. The camp is closed in the months of October, during rainy season, and in January and February, because of low ocean temperatures. Other activities that can be booked through the camp include massages, yoga classes, horse back riding, and zip line canopy tours.

    Giant's Foot Surf

    • Opened in 2004, this surf camp is run by half a dozen American surfers and offers packages for a five to seven day surf camp. This package includes airport transportation, accommodations located on Playa Gigante, transportation to various beaches along the coast of the Rivas province, and three daily meals including local beer, rum and soft drinks. This is a camp for more experienced surfers as surfing lessons are not included in the package. The surf camp is open between mid-March through mid-September with limited reservations taken between those months.
