Hockey Camps in Massachusetts

From the frozen ponds in the Berkshires to Boston's annual Beanpot Tournament in which city rivals Harvard, Northeastern, Boston College and Boston University compete for bragging rights, Massachusetts has established itself as a state rich with ice hockey tradition. Across the state, there are multiple competitive hockey camps designed to instruct, develop and enhance the skills of young players.
  1. Pro Star Hockey Camp

    • Pro Star Hockey Camp is an invitational camp that targets the top young hockey prospects in North America. As of July 2010, there were more than 40 Pro Star alumni who have played on a National Hockey League team, including 22 who are still active in their respective NHL careers.

      The camp is held at Cushing Academy, a private boarding school in Ashburnham, Massachusetts. The cost of the camp as of 2010 was $850 and covered the individual's room, meals, socks, jersey and registration fees.

      The camp allows multiple payments installations to be paid if it cannot all be paid at once. The camp runs for three one-week sessions in August. The first session is for 14-year-old boys. The second session is for 15-year-old boys and the third session is for teams. Enrollment is capped at 70 campers per week.

    Blaise MacDonald's Hockey School

    • Blaise MacDonald's Hockey School takes place at the Tsongas Arena in Lowell the last week of July and the first week of August. The camp is divided up into two age groups: under 13 years old and under 9.

      MacDonald, the men's ice hockey coach for the University of Massachusetts at Lowell River Hawks, along with his staff of assistant coaches contain an impressive resume that includes NHL and U.S. Olympic team playing experience as well as many years of coaching at the collegiate level.

      Each camp day consists of two sessions on the ice, which include games to improve skills and improvement of skating skills and abilities. An additional session off of the ice focuses on basic conditioning, stick handling and video analysis of the campers skating sessions.

      Current members of the UMass Lowell men's hockey team serve as assistants on the ice and camp counselors off the ice.

    Eagle Hockey School

    • Eagle Hockey School, a camp open to boys and girls ages 6 to 10 is held just outside of Boston at the Fessenden school in Newton. The camp offers two one-week sessions between the end of July and the beginning of August.

      The main skill areas of focus at the camp are team play, power skating, shooting, passing and puck control. The camp programming consists of 15 hours of ice time each session and operates from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. each day.
