The figure four is a very technical move that can easily cause an opponent to submit. Once the figure four is learned, it can be a valuable tool during a wrestling match.

  1. Perform and Escape From a Figure Four Leg Lock

      Get your opponent on their back. You should be standing at their feet. This positioning is vital.

      Grab your opponent's left foot. Their left foot should be on your right side. Step over your opponent's left leg with your left leg. You should now be straddling your opponent's left leg, facing away from him or her.

      Twist your opponent's left leg towards their right. Place your opponent's left foot on their right leg just above their knee. You should now be facing towards your opponent's right side. Your opponent's legs should now be in a "P" shape and your right leg should be in the circle part of the "P".

      Hold this position and fall to your back. You'll have to twist slightly to the right to ensure you land on your back. As you're falling to your back, raise your left leg and put it on top of your opponent's left foot that is on their right leg. The figure four leg lock is now complete.

      Use your arms and weight to roll your opponent over onto their stomach if you are being held in a figure four. This will reverse the pressure that your opponent has placed on your legs and apply the pressure to your opponent. This is how you escape from the figure four leg lock. Your opponent will now be in the submission move.
