Professional Golf Events in Florida

With seemingly endless sunshine and warm weather for almost the entire year, Florida is a favorite destination for golfers. Florida has more golf courses than any other state with 1,250. It is also home to the Professional Golf Association. Pro golfers are well aware of Florida's open invitation to its courses, and a pro golf event is not hard to find in Florida at any time of year.

  1. Professional Golf Association

    • The Professional Golf Association, or PGA, headquartered in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, also holds events in Florida. Florida PGA annual events include the Honda Classic in Palm Beach Gardens, the Transitions Championship in Palm Harbor, the Tavistock Cup in Windermere, and the Arnold Palmer Invitational in Orlando. All of those events are in March. In May the Players Cup is held in Ponte Vedra Beach; and in August, fans can see the ADT Skills Challenge in Palm Beach. November and December also offer PGA events with the Children's Miracle Network Classic in Lake Buena Vista or the Shark Shootout in Naples.

    Florida Professional Golf Tour

    • The Florida Professional Golf Tour is one of several small professional or semi-professional golf associations in Florida. This particular organization is five years old and holds a number of events throughout the year in Central and North Florida. Their events are meant to be a developmental tour for professional golfers. The tour is focused on winter play. Though the schedule for the upcoming tour is not yet available, events last year began in November and continued through March with events in Apopka, New Smyrna Beach, Kissimmee, Daytona Beach, Ormond Beach, Wintergarden and Orlando.

    • Tickets to PGA Tour events can be purchased from the PGA Tour website. Ticket prices vary, depending on demand and location for the event, the amount of access to the course an observer desires and the day of the tournament attended. For example, tickets for the 2010 Honda Classic range from $15 for a grounds ticket early in the tournament to as much as $700 for a weekend pass with full access to the clubhouse. Smaller professional organization tickets are much less expensive. There are also a number of less expensive charity professional golf events where spectators can see professional golfers outside a traditional tour or even play with professional golfers, for example the Florida's Natural Charity Classic.
